I was born in Nottingham in 1964 and still live in this great city. As for writing, I’ve had the urge to do it from a very early age – I remember scribbling on a teddy bear as a toddler! – and my first forays into writing novels took place in my teens. Those attempts, together with a number of short stories and some juvenile poetry, never made it to publication of course. I persevered though, independently publishing my official debut novel The Daylight Thief in November 2015. My second novel The Man Who Found Treasure was published in October 2019.
I also post the occasional blog on this site about my other passion (besides, that is, my family and Nottingham Forest FC!)… which is history. Within these pages I hope that I can communicate the buzz I get when I am standing in the places where history happened.
My fiction draws on this love of the past – particularly our proximity and debt to it – and my fascination with how the unexceptional and mundane can sometimes become exceptional and unique.
